New ** An Invitation for Nursery and Reception to attend a Story Explorers Event
September
What a brilliant start to Nursery the children have all had! We are so proud of them for how well they have settled in and learnt our rules and routines. Over the last few weeks we have been busy learning all about each other in our 'All about me' topic. We are also practicing our independence in putting on our own shoes and coats and getting our own belongings at the end of the day- practicing these skills at home would be fantastic too!
The children have started practicing their gross and fine motor skills in activities such as parachute games, climbing over obstacle courses, dough disco, squiggle whilst you wiggle and plenty of activities which involve threading and pinching objects using tweezers! All of these activities will help them to eventually hold their pencils in a comfortable position ready for writing.
Heading into October, we have started our Ten Town learning, where the children learn numbers through the characters who live in Ten town. These are very short clips which then lead into some interactive games such as tracing numbers and finding the number sets each time. So far we have learnt Zero Pond and King One.
We have now started our Autumn/Bears topic too and our first key text is 'we're going on a bear hunt', which the children have enjoyed doing the actions to and repeating the key refrains. It has been so lovely to see them taking this story into their learning during choosing time and hearing them tell each other the lines from the story whilst acting it out. The children have started creating large scale pictures from the story too, such as the 'swirling, whirling snowstorm', and 'swishy, swashy grass', experimenting with a range of different materials and textures ready to put up on our display! Our next key text will be Goldilocks and the three bears and Owl babies.
Nursery's first week!
We are so proud of how well the children have settled into Nursery life on their first full week with us, they have been superstars! They have been busy exploring our indoor and outdoor environments, beginning to familiarise themselves with our rules and routines and beginning to form friendships which is lovely to see.
Our current topic is 'All about me' and we have been looking at our faces in mirrors, discussing what features we have and drawing our self-portraits which look fabulous! This also led to discussions about similarities and differences between ourselves and others. The children are really enjoying looking at their family photos in our home corner and talking about their families. Please remember if you haven't already, to bring in a family photo for our wall as it is lovely for the children to see you during the day! In the next couple of weeks we will be starting our Autumn/bears topic.
