Autumn 1 Learning!
Wow! What a busy half term we have had in Year 1! We have loved exploring our class texts: The Secret Sky Garden, 10 Things I can do to help my World, Dear Greenpeace and a poem all about Teddy Bears!
You can share the texts together at home below. Ask your child to tell you about their favourite parts of the stories. What can they tell you about the setting and the characters?

In our English lessons we have enjoyed describing the environment around school and creating posters to help keep our school clean!
We have also described settings and characters then used these ideas to inspire our own poems.
Maths
This half term in Maths we have explored numbers to 20.
We have compared numbers using the language greater than and fewer than. We have also started to complete simple addition and subtraction equations using part part whole models.
We have identified about 2D and 3D shapes and sorted them according to their properties.
Geography - Why don't penguins need to fly?
We have been learning about Antarctica and the Arctic Circle, we have compared the location and features of both places and the animals who live there.
We have learnt about how Pip the penguin is adapted perfectly to his home and how Alice the Camel is perfectly adapted to live in the Sahara desert.

Year 1 Penguins!
1st October
Year 1 were very lucky today as they were visited by Sallie and Warwick Bear from the Warwickshire Safe and Active Team! Sally read a story about travelling to school actively, building on the learning from Reception. Thank you Sallie and Warwick for the children's own copy of the book and the Road Safety Spy sticker! We will continue with our learning in January!

Our Oracy Assembly for this week.
17/09/26 We believe that developing strong speaking and listening skills is key to our children’s confidence and success. Our weekly class oracy assemblies provide a fantastic opportunity for pupils to practise clear communication, active listening, and respectful discussion. From storytelling to debate, every child is encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas in a supportive environment.
