Year 5 Meet and Greet

This half term has been beautifully packed full of lots of activities. Year 5 elephants have been amazing in all their learning!

English.

We have written lots of fantastic pieces in English -:

  • letters to Beowulf
  • a monster tale
  • a kenning poem

 Art.

In art, we have been very proud of our observational drawings. Plus, we have enjoyed designing our illuminated letters, which link to our Anglo-Saxon  history topic.

History

As part of our Anglo Saxon topic, we have been understanding what an archaeologist does and how artefacts can help us build a picture of the past.

 Science.

In science, we have loved learning about the moon phases and how the earth rotates and orbits the sun.

 Black History Month.

We have used ‘Now press play’ for Black History Month empathising with the Rosa Park story.

Also, for Black history month, we have been studying about the Windrush generation. Why they came to Britain and how people from the Caribbean felt in those first few years as a newcomer in a new place. Here are some of our poems.

Year 5 BHM Autumn 1

Maths.

In maths, our work has been centred around understanding place value of 6 digit numbers. We then went on to challenge ourselves to answer word problems involving addition and subtraction of these large numbers.

 French.

In French, we have been speaking, listening and writing about our emotions and describing how we feel.

Extra curricular activities.

We have helped Mrs Spence in the school grounds by tidying the shrubs in the plant boxes. It was a muddy, but very enjoyable job!

Now Press play activities for Anglo-Saxons and Black History month.

What a fabulous start to year 5. I am very proud of all the children and their hard work.

Lunchtime Club - Chess.

The Year 5 and 6 chess tournament has begun. I wonder who will get through to the next round!
