WOW Travel Tracker Letter for Parents and Carers

Letter to Parents and Carers from Safer Streets

WOW is a led by the children where they self-report how they get to and from school every day using our interactive WOW Travel Tracker. If they travel sustainably three times a week for a month, they will be rewarded with a WOW badge. It's that easy!

Each Friday, we look at which classes have recorded the most active trips for the week.  Will it be yours next week?

September - July 2027

We have started off strong already this year!  We are delighted to share the exciting news that Eastlands Primary School has once again been awarded the Platinum Safe and Active Travel Award, the highest accolade available through Warwickshire County Council’s Safe and Active Schools programme. The initiative, which promotes children’s ability to travel safely and actively in their communities, has been embedded in school life for many years and is supported through an extensive programme of learning led by Mrs Vikmanis through our PSHE and PE curriculum. We are incredibly proud to have achieved this prestigious award for the second consecutive year, recognising the school’s continued commitment to developing children’s road safety awareness, independence and healthy lifestyles. Mrs Warrington and Mrs Vikmanis attended a special awards ceremony at Shire Hall in Warwick  to receive the Platinum Award, but were delighted to discover that Eastlands had also received three additional awards. These recognised our seven years of participation in the Road Safety Education Programme, our outstanding increase in active travel rates over the past four years, with the proportion of pupils travelling actively increasing from 55.8% to 78%, and achieving the second highest points total for activities completed within the Safe and Active Schools programme. These achievements are a testament to the fantastic partnership between our children, parents and staff. Thank you for your continued support in helping more children travel safely and actively each day. These awards belong to our whole school community, and we congratulate everyone who has played a part in this success.

We have made the press!  The Rugby Observer has printed an article from Living Streets, to share how we topped the leader board in England for active travel! Take a look. School kids stroll to the top of the leader board!

WOW Information Letter for Parents

Last year, we took part in lots of road safety activities including...

Learning all about being safe by the road with Warwick Bear, Scootability safety, Bikeability (reception), Beep, Beep day, be bright, be seen, walking safely to swimming, the Temple Speech Rooms, to Rugby School, the theatre and so much more.  We were rewarded with a Platinum Road Safety Award!

We now also have a Road Crossing Patrol on the Lower Hillmorton Road.  Families can safely park and stride if your grown ups park at the GEC, cross the road with the crossing patrol and walk down the allotment path.   Or your grown ups can park at Whinfield Park and you could walk across to the field gate. This will keep us all safer and means you can register park and stride!
