Every Thursday morning, each class enjoys a dedicated Oracy Assembly, where children build confidence in speaking, listening, and sharing their ideas with others. To help extend this learning beyond the classroom, a short overview of the assembly will be uploaded to the class webpages each Friday. This gives you a great opportunity to chat with your child at home about what they’ve learned, the topics discussed, and how they’re developing their communication skills. We love working in partnership with families to support confident, thoughtful speakers!

With Safer Internet Day coming up, we are sharing Wake Up Wednesday Guides for each Year group. With children online, it's understandable to have concerns about the films and TV shows they watch, as well as the video games they play. In this guide, we take a look at two ways you can assess if a particular movie, programme or game is suitable for a child. Both the BBFC and PEGI have search facilities on their sites that can be used to look up individual titles, so you can check their age ratings.

We had a very exciting time today, it’s Children In Need Day. All classes took part in the Strictly CIN Dance! Strictly pros Luba, Michelle, Nancy and Neil created a brand new cha cha cha routine to the song what makes you beautiful! We all enjoyed taking part in the challenge and it was a 10 from the grown ups!

Today is Antibullying and Odd Socks Day. Wearing odd socks is a way to celebrate what makes us different and to express our individuality.

October
On Friday 24th October, we held our class Celebration Assembly. What a wonderful celebration of everything we have achieved in the first half term of Year 4!
On Friday 10th October, we went outside as part of our work on Black History Month. We completed an orienteering quiz, looking around school for the answers to questions about Mary Seacole. We had great fun and developed our map reading skills at the same time!

We have now finished writing our non-chronological reports about polar bears and they are fantastic! The children are really enjoying our class book, 'The Last Bear' - it has taught us lots about polar bears and why it is important to look after our planet.
September 2025
We have had a great start to the new school year. Take a look....
In English, we have been trying so hard to join our handwriting. The whole class are doing brilliantly but here are a few amazing examples!
In Geography, we have been learning about Earthquakes. We have studied the structure of the earth, what causes an earthquake and where they often happen. We have also investigated why some earthquakes cause more destruction than others.
On Friday 26th September 2025, we celebrated European Languages Day. Some of our children speak different languages at home so they taught us to say some words! We learnt Polish, Gujarati, Russian and Greek!
In Art, we have been learning about tone, texture and proportion. We made these amazing collages out of packaging, thinking about the use of colour and space to create a balanced composition.

In Maths, we have been exploring different strategies for addition and subtraction. We used place value counters to show the column method for subtraction. This helped us to understand what happens when we exchange.
